Bloom update

Posted in: Blog, Training Centre by Bloom on May 25, 2010 | No Comments

So much has been happening at Bloom – apologies for neglecting to update the blog! Here’s a quick snapshot of what’s been going on the past few months:

MARCH

The Bloom Advocacy Program was launched simultaneously across Sydney and Brisbane. Our awesome group of advocates are now involved in spreading awareness about Bloom amongst their family and friends. To join the program, contact hello@bloomasia.org.

APRIL

Bloom Training Centre was honoured with a visit by the Australian Ambassador in Phnom Penh. The Ambassador was highly impressed with the work of the girls and commended the work of Bloom.

MAY

Our newest group of graduates joined the team at Bloom Cakes and Bloom Cafe as full time employees. Both businesses have been incredibly well received by locals and expats alike, and the Cafe has become a favourite haunt for many regulars. Also, Bloom Cafe held its first kids’ party which was a raging success among the dozen 6-year old girls dressed in the Princess Theme. Both the partygoers and our girls loved the experience.

There’s more to come so keep your eyes and ears tuned for the next quarterly newsletter in June, and get involved in the Change the World One Cupcake at a Time Week in August! More information to come…

Ruth’s interview on ABC Radio

Posted in: Blog, Featured, Training Centre by Bloom on June 4, 2009 | No Comments

Check it out – Ruth’s interview on Evenings with Steve Austin aired tonight on ABC Radio!

This is what the ABC site had to say:

Human trafficking is the fastest growing criminal activity, the net worth is second only to drugs. 60,000 -100,000 underage girls are trafficked in Cambodia every year. Many children are kidnapped and sold into the brothels. Others are tricked.

Along with her husband, Murray, Ruth Larwill is a director of Bloom Asia – dedicated to the work of rescuing and rehabilitating at-risk and trafficked girls from a life of misery.

Download the interview now from the ABC Radio website

or listen to it here:

AUDIO CLIP REMOVED

Sorry folks, we had to remove the audio clip, but in its place we’ve loaded up a shortened transcript of the interview, which you can view here.
