Change the world one cupcake at a time: 1-7 August 2010

Our students and employees in Cambodia are doing an amazing job making and selling stunning cakes, cupcakes and other treats at Bloom Cafe in Phnom Penh. To support their work and ongoing training, we’re hoping to raise money and awareness with Change the world one cupcake at a time week.
When is it on?
The first week of August, 1st-7th
What’s involved?
During this week, we’re encouraging you to get some friends together and have a bakesale: cookies, cupcakes, muffins, slices… anything you can sell at your church, school, workplace or neighbourhood during this week-long period will be great.
How do I get started?
Sign up at hello@bloomasia.org and send us your details including full name, mailing address, a contact phone number and the number of baked goods you hope to sell (eg. two trays of cupcakes = 24). We’ll send out cards (business-sized) that you can hand out with every treat sold, because our aim is to spread awareness of Bloom, not just tickle people’s taste buds. We’ll also send you details on how you can deposit the monies raised back into Bloom.
How much do I sell my goodies for?
It’s up to you - you might wish to package the cookies in cellophane and sell them for a few dollar a bag, or sell individual cupcakes for $2 or so each. Whatever price you think is fair and that people will purchase at is fine with us.
To get involved, email hello@blomasia.org today.

Request a Bloom Advocacy Presentation Kit
You can request a Bloom Advocacy Presentation Kit, which comes with everything you need to host your own Bloom event. The idea is to gather your friends in a social setting and host a tea party or casual get-together, speak about Bloom and raise some money and awareness. Here’s how:
- Contact us and order a Bloom Advocacy Kit.
- Invite your friends around or ask for time at your connect group, mothers’ group or club meeting.
- Use the speaker’s guide contained in the Kit to tell your friends about the work of Bloom.
- Sell a few items contained in the Kit to raise money for Bloom (optional).
We suggest hosting an event with a friend to help organise the details, like invitations, catering and money-handling. Event suggestions include:
- hosting a casual tea party / garden party / get-together
- a local fundraising dinner
- ask if you can give a short presentation about Bloom at a regular meeting of your connect group, mothers’ group or youth meeting
- a charity BBQ
If you’d like to raise money for Bloom and wish to order the kit with merchandise (many from Cambodia, including jewellery, scarves and decorative gifts), there’ll be an up-front deposit covering the cost of the items. The cost is fully refundable after the items are sold at your event, and any items unsold can be returned for a complete refund. Where possible, we’ve sourced items from organisations that also help the underprivileged, like the National Centre for Disabled Persons in Cambodia and Tabitha, which provides an income for widows.
If you’d like more information about hosting an Bloom meeting, please contact hello@bloomasia.org. If you’d like to raise awareness about Bloom but are not comfortable with public speaking, please let us know and we can try to organise a speaker to present on your behalf at the event.
