This is what it took
to help a survivor like Sokha believe in herself again
When a survivor arrives at Bloom Asia, the weight of her past can make it impossible to dream of a different future. Your gift this Christmas can provide the holistic care she needs to heal, believe in her value, and build a new life.
Your tax-deductible Christmas gift will fuel the Bloom Asia Freedom Journey Program, giving surviors the chance to overcome the past, embrace their potential, and build hope-filled lives.

Sokha’s Story
There was a time, before I started at Bloom, I didn’t believe in myself. I had a dream of becoming a cake decorator but I never thought it would happen.
I used to compare myself to a pair of shoes – no matter how expensive, they’re still worn on the feet. I didn’t value myself. I felt small, without purpose, and that people looked down on me.
At Bloom, everything felt different. In the beginning, it was very hard for me to learn new things because I was distracted by painful memories. But my mentor encouraged me: “Try it first. You have nothing to lose”. The counsellors didn’t just teach me skills; they treated me with love and respect, a kind of love that healed my heart. I used to hear the words “I love you,” but never truly understood them until Bloom.
This is what it took.
I needed to address the long list of things in my life that left me feeling vulnerable. I needed ongoing therapy. I needed a way to change my life. I needed people around me who were on my side.
That’s what it took for me to become the person I am today.
On my graduation day, I was so excited. To some, it might have looked like just a small certificate, but to me, it represented a bright future I never imagined. I started to believe in myself. I realised I am smart, capable, and able to build the life I want.
Now, I dream of becoming a sugar art trainer, teaching others valuable skills. I’m not there yet, but I am on my way. Soon we’ll welcome a new class to Bloom, and I want to tell them, “You are in the right place. Open your heart and accept everything Bloom provides”.
Your support made my journey possible, and now you can help another young woman begin hers.
